Titus Mafolo mourned, ANC stalwart leaves towering void

The anti-apartheid activist and former political adviser Titus Mafolo was honored at a special provincial funeral in Centurion. The sixty-nine-year-old businessman and former UDF leader, who later advised Thabo Mbeki, died following a short illness. Deputy President Paul Mashatile attended the service with other mourners.

His wife, Wilhelmina, remembered him as her high school sweetheart, stating his death felt like turning off the main power in their home. She described an irreplaceable loss for her and their children. A friend, former Transnet executive Brian Molefe, shared details of Mafolo’s last hours. He noted the activist had been watching an interview with Advocate Menzi Simelane, afterwards posting in a WhatsApp group to praise Simelane’s clear intelligence and lament his sidelining from the National Prosecuting Authority.
