Tourist Smashes Swarovski Van Gogh Chair in Verona

A tourist broke an expensive art piece at a museum in northern Italy. The man sat on a special chair covered with thousands of shiny crystals. The chair snapped under his weight during the photo session. He and his female companion ran away after breaking the display. Security cameras recorded everything that happened.

The broken artwork was worth $50,000 according to museum officials. Artist Nicola Bolla created the chair based on a famous Van Gogh painting. The piece used hundreds of Swarovski crystals as decoration. Museum workers at Maffei Palace shared the video online. They wanted people to learn about respecting art.

The tourists waited for the guard to leave before taking pictures. The woman pretended to sit on the chair without touching it. The man decided to actually sit down for his photo. The chair legs gave way and nearly sent him falling. Both visitors quickly left the room after the accident.

Experts spent days trying to fix the damaged artwork. Restorers successfully repaired the delicate crystal chair. The museum thanked workers who saved the broken display. Officials did not say if they punished the tourists. The palace reminded visitors to treat art with care and respect.
