Trump folds, lets NVIDIA's Huang ship H20 AI chips to China

The United States Commerce Department has begun issuing export licenses for NVIDIA H20 artificial intelligence processors destined for Chinese markets. This development follows a recent meeting between NVIDIA Chief Executive Jensen Huang and President Trump. The semiconductor company can resume shipping these specialized chips after months of regulatory suspension. Previous reports indicated that hundreds of thousands of H20 units remained in storage due to approval delays. NVIDIA successfully addressed concerns from Chinese regulators about potential security vulnerabilities in the processors.

The graphics processor manufacturer clarified that no tracking mechanisms or security backdoors exist within the H20 chips despite pressure from American legislators. Export approvals represent a significant shift for the company after extended uncertainty regarding Chinese market access. NVIDIA maintains approximately 900,000 H20 units ready for distribution to address previous quarterly losses. The company plans to continue H20 shipments through the remainder of the year before introducing newer Blackwell B20 and RTX 6000D models to domestic markets.
