Udio preps to hire a big shot after settling with major labels

That AI music outfit just cut deals with the industry's biggest players after some legal drama. Udio settled copyright lawsuits with both Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group, securing licenses for its upcoming platform. The company is now recruiting a Head of Artist Partnerships to work from Los Angeles or New York. This executive will manage ties with major artists, their managers, labels, and publishers.

The job involves expanding the use of the Udio Artist Platform and negotiating partnership terms. Udio wants someone who can define artist engagement during what it calls a pivotal growth period. Candidates need direct experience with artists or labels and a strong industry network. They must handle complex dealmaking and bridge creative and technical discussions.

These moves follow infringement lawsuits from the Recording Industry Association of America on behalf of major record companies. Rival platform Suno also reached a licensing agreement with Warner Music Group, but still faces legal action from Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and European groups like Koda and GEMA.

Warner Music Group stated its Udio agreement would create new revenue streams while protecting artists' work. Udio, backed by investors like a16z and will.i.am claims its mission is to champion musicians and expand fan engagement. Its planned subscription service will let users make remixes and new songs with participating artist voices, ensuring credit and payment.

The new hire will structure artist participation frameworks alongside legal and product teams. They will collect feedback for platform improvements and represent Udio at industry events. The company also promised expanded protections to safeguard artists' and songwriters' rights ahead of its platform launch.
