Uganda Cubs head to Morocco for AFCON

Uganda's youth soccer team just landed in Morocco for a big tournament. These players - all under 17 years old - will compete in the AFCON championship starting March 30. The games run through April 19, giving them weeks to show their skills. Twenty-two players and twelve adults flew out Thursday evening for this important event.

The Cubs plan to practice and play warmup matches before the real competition begins. This tournament offers a path to the FIFA U17 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar this year. Only the best ten teams from Africa will advance to that global stage. Uganda faces tough competition in Group A against Morocco, Tanzania, and Zambia.

Their first test is on March 30, when they face the home team, Morocco, at El Bachir Stadium. The team features promising talent from across Uganda, including players from Vipers SC, KCCA FC, and Masaka Sunshine. Many young athletes earned spots through standout play at the junior level. The roster brings together kids from various clubs and schools across the country.

Brian Ssenyondo is the head coach, assisted by Ronald Ssali. The full staff includes trainers, doctors, fitness experts, and equipment managers. John Kalibala heads the entire delegation during their time abroad. Every adult plays a key role in helping these young stars shine on an international stage.
