Uganda embraces climate mapping to protect crops and livelihoods

Uganda's agriculture ministry adopted climate vulnerability mapping on Thursday to protect crop yields from weather disruptions at a two-day conference in Entebbe. The scientific tool helps officials direct resources toward areas most threatened by droughts, floods and pest outbreaks that traditional farming methods cannot counter.

Commissioner Paul Mwambu said policymakers will integrate vulnerability data into national investment plans. Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa director David Wozemba told participants that farmers and regulators must coordinate efforts to overcome production obstacles.

Uganda faces moderate climate hazards but maintains crop systems highly susceptible to environmental shifts. Government officials, researchers and agricultural groups attended the policy dialogue themed around evidence-based community action.
