Over 300 Ugandans gathered at their High Commission office early Saturday morning for a running event. The crowd met at 5 a.m. on Msasani Road, located near the Oyster Bay area of Dar es Salaam. Members from several community groups joined the half-marathon alongside the first Uganda Diaspora Convention activities. Runners chose between 15-kilometer and 10-kilometer races or walked shorter distances around the neighborhood. The event promoted healthy living and showcased sports as a way to attract tourists.
Musa Ramadhan Rajabu won the longer 15-kilometer race against many competitors from Tanzania and Uganda. Regan Allen Massawe crossed the finish line first during the 10-kilometer competition for his age group. Both winners received free airplane tickets from Uganda Airlines to compete at the Rwenzori Marathon. The mountain race happens every August near Kasese town and carries international recognition from World Athletics. If they run fast enough, winners can use their times to qualify for the Olympic Games.

During the ceremony, Lucy Ismail from Uganda Airlines handed out the winning tickets to both champions. Julius Sekajja promoted the upcoming Rwenzori Marathon and encouraged more people to register for the August event. The weekend concluded with a networking party for all Ugandans living abroad.
