Umesh Shukla reflects on faith and blind faith ahead of 'Heer Express' release

Director Umesh Shukla prepares for the theatrical release of Heer Express while reflecting on his religious background. The filmmaker previously helmed OMG – Oh My God and brings personal experience from his Brahmin upbringing to his work. Shukla performed traditional ceremonies at homes during his youth, conducting Satyanayan pooja, Lakshmi pooja, and Nishadiya rituals while dressed in dhoti and kurta. His questioning nature led him to identify inconsistencies within religious practices during conversations with family elders. These observations provided valuable material for the OMG – Oh My God screenplay.

The director collaborated with accomplished actors like Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar, Om Puri, Mithun Chakraborty, and Govind Namdev during production. Shukla shared childhood experiences with the cast to help them understand their characters better. The interactions between director and performers created an enjoyable working environment during filming. His personal religious experiences enhanced the satirical elements within the story. Heer Express arrives in theaters on August 8, 2025.
