Umno Deputy President Advises Hishammuddin to Appeal Six-Year Suspension

A suspended Malaysian politician can request party leaders review his punishment. Sembrong lawmaker Hishammuddin Hussein received a six-year ban from his political party UMNO. Deputy party chief Mohamad Hasan told him to write an appeal letter for consideration. The party's top council holds the power to reduce or cancel the suspension entirely. Party officials will decide whether to accept his request for lighter punishment.

Another politician successfully appealed his suspension through the same process. Former lawmaker Tajuddin Abdul Rahman asked party leaders to reconsider his six-year ban. He wrote a formal letter requesting mercy from the political organization. Party officials lifted his suspension after reviewing his appeal last November. The success story shows other suspended members can seek similar relief.

Local party branches want Hishammuddin returned to leadership positions. The Sembrong division passed a motion calling for his reinstatement to party roles. Johor state party chief Onn Hafiz Ghazi plans to discuss the matter with national leaders. Supreme Council member Ahmad Maslan said officials will examine the issue during Monday meetings. Party headquarters received 191 similar motions from local divisions across Malaysia demanding various actions.
