Underdog Cricket Club Takes on Gambia at Century Match

Amateur cricketers from South London plan to face The Gambia national team this November. The Believers Cricket Club usually plays matches around Barnes or Battersea. Their upcoming game will happen under the British High Commissioner's observation as part of celebrations marking 100 years of cricket in The Gambia.

Team captain Ben Geffen says the club exists because members love cricket, not because they excel at it. Friends rejected from local teams decided to start their club rather than abandon the sport. After losing several local matches, Geffen contacted numerous national cricket teams seeking competition. The Gambia accepted their challenge when most others ignored them.

The team wants to document this unusual sporting event through film. They seek funding to produce a documentary about their international adventure. The money raised will pay for production costs and equipment needed for their African tour. Player travel expenses remain separate from these funds. Anyone interested can donate through the crowdfunding website.
