US eases Dominica visa fears, Skerrit says CBI reforms on track

Dominica's Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says the US has not stopped its upcoming travel restrictions. He stated that ongoing talks have provided important clarifications, however. The partial entry limits for certain Dominican citizens will still start at the beginning of the new year.

Skerrit emphasized that the rules are narrower than first thought. He confirmed that people who already have valid American visas for tourism, business, or study can still travel normally. Those visas will not be canceled. Anyone without a current visa can still apply after the deadline, but new visas will not be issued to those covered by the proclamation during the restriction period. No extra application requirements have been added.

The Prime Minister said his government has been talking with US officials since the announcement, treating the matter with urgency. Dominica has sent a formal letter seeking more clarity and dialogue. A review of the measures is expected about three months after they begin. Skerrit linked the US action to recent reforms in Dominica's Citizenship by Investment program. He noted his country made major legal changes to its framework, including stricter background checks and residency rules. The government believes these changes address US concerns, but is asking for confirmation on whether more is needed.

Skerrit affirmed the value of Dominica's relationship with the United States, highlighting cooperation on security and regional stability. He promised his administration is acting in the public's best interest and will provide more updates.
