US to revoke Colombian President Petro's visa over NY rant

The State Department announced it would revoke Colombian President Gustavo Petro's visa after his comments Friday. Officials said Petro encouraged American military personnel to ignore commands and promote violence during his New York visit. The agency described his actions as reckless and inflammatory. Petro attended the United Nations General Assembly when he made the controversial statements.

The Colombian leader addressed protesters outside UN headquarters about American military conduct. He asked troops to refuse orders from President Donald Trump and follow humanitarian principles instead. Petro accused Trump of supporting genocide in Gaza during his Tuesday speech to world leaders. The president also called for legal action against US missile strikes on suspected drug boats.

Colombia suspended coal shipments to Israel under Petro's administration. The leader frequently criticizes Israel's military operations in Gaza through social media posts. Neither Petro's office nor Colombia's foreign ministry responded to comment requests.
