Nigerian singer Waje showed up to the 6th Nigerian Governors' spouses forum conference in Abuja, where first ladies and policy people got together to talk about women's issues, healthcare, education, and youth stuff. She's been working on women's rights for a while and wanted to discuss how people with big platforms actually shape culture.
Waje pointed out that male influencers have way more influence than they think they do. She said the content they normalize, the jokes they laugh at, and what they let slide in their comments really matter. When respected guys call out bad behavior or back up women talking about harassment and inequality, it moves the needle faster than endless arguments.
Her whole point was that real change needs more than just government programs. People with cultural reach have to step up and use their influence intentionally.
