War Thunder's Leviathan update demands a pricey new NVIDIA GPU

Gaijin Games just announced some major visual upgrades coming to their military combat game War Thunder. The company revealed their Leviathan update will bring Path Traced Global Illumination technology to players around the world. This fancy new lighting system will replace the older ray tracing features that have been part of the game for several years. The developers explained that this upgrade will make shadows and indoor lighting look much more realistic than before. Players can expect to see dramatic improvements when fighting battles inside buildings or valleys.

The old lighting system had serious problems that frustrated many gamers during intense combat situations. Light would appear in places where it should never exist, creating unrealistic scenes that broke immersion. The new PTGI technology fixes these annoying light leaks and makes everything look more natural. Indoor areas will match the outdoor lighting much better than the current version allows. Blue tints that appeared incorrectly will disappear completely from shadowed areas.

This advanced lighting comes with a performance cost that might slow down older gaming computers. Gaijin added frame generation support from major graphics card companies to help offset the extra demand. NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel users will all benefit from smoother gameplay despite the heavier graphics load. The developers are also working on CPU and GPU optimizations to improve overall performance. New DirectX features called Opacity Micro-Maps and Shader Execution Reordering will boost performance on newer graphics cards.
