FCT Minister Wike says NBA took a N300 million gift from suspended Rivers governor Fubara. This money explains why they opposed emergency rule in Rivers State. Wike shared these thoughts during his Thursday media talk in Abuja.
His comments follow President Tinubu's declaration of an emergency rule in Rivers State, which suspended Fubara for six months. Because of the emergency, the NBA moved its Annual General Conference 2025 from Port Harcourt to Enugu State.
The NBA has always called the emergency rule unconstitutional. Recently, Rivers State Administrator Vice Admiral Ibas asked the NBA to return the N300 million they received for hosting the conference. The NBA described this money as a gift from Rivers State.
Wike disagrees with this view. He says the N300 million was never legally approved through proper channels. During a meeting with legal leaders, Wike mentioned that the NBA condemned a local government court ruling without reading it first. He pointed out that his own budgetary grants follow legal processes because they go through official approval, unlike what he calls this "illegal gift" to the NBA.
