Will ZIFA's New President End Corruption Scandal?

Zimbabwe's football leadership is set for a big change today. A new president will be elected to run the national association, ZIFA.

ZIFA has been under FIFA's control since July 2023. That's when FIFA lifted an 18-month ban on Zimbabwe. A special committee was put in charge to get things back on track.

The committee leader, Lincoln Mutasa, had several key tasks. He had to restructure ZIFA's offices, oversee changes to the rules, and ensure that new leaders would be voted in.

That big vote happens today in Harare, the capital city. 78 officials from across the country will choose the new president and board members. They have an important job to do.

ZIFA has struggled with problems for many years. Leaders have come and gone. The association needs to be run better. It must focus on growing the sport from the grassroots up.

The voters today have a chance to make that happen. They need to elect leaders who will unite everyone. The winners must be ready to work hard over the next four years.

Change won't come overnight, but FIFA has helped lay a good foundation. Zimbabwe's national team is doing well again. They qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations, and a new coach is in place with FIFA's support.

The future of Zimbabwean football rests on today's election. The voters have an opportunity to choose wisely. They can put the past troubles behind them and set a new course for ZIFA.

It won't be easy. But with the right people in charge, anything is possible. The beautiful game in Zimbabwe could soon have a very bright future indeed.
