Fifa forces Magwizi's hand to oust Zifa cronies

Zimbabwe's football association has set a schedule for elections across six subordinate bodies after FIFA directed the country to legitimize structures operating beyond their mandates. The Zifa Electoral Committee announced on Monday that nominations close on Oct. 21, and voting will occur between Dec. 6 and Dec. 15 across two weekends.

The elections will cover executive committees for regional men's and women's leagues, provincial leagues, beach soccer, futsal, and area zones. These bodies have remained in office since an October 2024 annual general meeting authorized extended terms without specifying when they would end.

Zifa President Nqobile Magwizi and his executive took office on Jan. 25 after the Premier Soccer League and Women's League completed their elections at midyear. The Electoral Committee emphasized that the elections align with Article 12 of the Zifa Statutes and ensure transparent administration.

Candidates face a Nov. 6 deadline for submitting documents, while appeals run from Nov. 8 through Nov. 15. Electoral Committee Chairman Moses Chigudu signed the roadmap distributed to stakeholders.
