Windhoek Salary Attack Rumor Denied by Chinese Embassy

The Chinese embassy in Windhoek calls reports about a Namibian worker being beaten by Chinese employers false rumors. Activist Michael Amushelelo shared pictures on social media showing Sikomba Andeas lying unconscious, claiming he was attacked after asking for his pay. Amushelelo threatened that if authorities did not act, the Chinese would be considered "dead meat." The embassy stated these allegations were untrue and assured that Namibian police would investigate the matter properly.

Lictech Investments manager Peter Lin tells a different story about what happened. He says Andeas had received his salary regularly and even got several advances before this incident. Lin claims Andreas came to work drunk on April 28 and became angry when denied another loan. Security footage shows Andeas pulling out a knife during the confrontation and attacking two Chinese staff members. Lin worries about growing misinformation that stirs up anti-Chinese feelings in Namibia. Police are looking into what really happened during this dispute.
