Youth Lead Charge at ECOWAS Volunteers Day in Essau

Youth groups gathered at Essau Senior Secondary School last month for ECOWAS Volunteers Day. They talked about helping communities through volunteer work. The celebration happened on March 26, with support from regional organizations that want young people involved in development projects.

Ahmed Salami from Worldview The Gambia told everyone that these yearly events show young people how volunteering creates positive change. The program started in 2010, sending helpers to different countries. These volunteers work in areas like health care, schools, and youth projects throughout West Africa.

The meeting featured training workshops and plans for new volunteer clubs. Everyone learned about the Mangrove Restoration Project, which fights coastal erosion near North Bank communities. School Vice Principal Omar Bun Sarr thanked the organizers for teaching students about climate issues.

Local leader Lamin Drammeh pointed out how restored mangroves bring tourism opportunities. Women and students spoke about feeling empowered through these activities. The day ended with awards given to community members, media representatives, and active students who participated in volunteer networks across member countries.
