YouTube ran on a jailbroken Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo Switch 2 has a working YouTube client via a jailbreak, and hackers may have found a way to run homebrew apps without a PC. The console's first public exploit needed a wired link to work, but fresh work could make that step a thing of the past.

One user on X, @byizmysh, posted a clip of YouTube in action on the console. The app seems to use VacuumTube, a free, open-source client built for a lean TV-style viewing setup. It runs through a hack made by Sammy Hajhamid, also known as pepsipu.

Sure, watching videos on a game console isn't a huge deal by itself. But it does show that people can run apps Nintendo did not put there. For fans who like to mess with their tech, that's a neat bit of progress.

Things get far more odd with claims about game data. Some users say they have pulled files from The Duskbloods beta and Mario Kart World, with RomFS archives part of the mix. No one has checked those claims in full yet, and there are no verified public dumps to back them up.

If the data access turns out to be real, modders may get a chance to change game files and build new features. Native PC ports made by fans could also become an option down the road, though that's far from a sure thing. Nintendo would likely act fast if game assets were shared without consent.

Meanwhile, Gezine, a well-known console security expert, is said to have built a new type of exploit. The idea uses an installer to place the hack chain in save data, which can then run after a reboot. That would cut the need for a fresh wired setup each time.

There's a catch, though. The method would grant user-level access rather than full control of the system. Still, that may be enough for some homebrew tools and emulators, with far less hassle each time a user starts the device.

For a console with such a young modding scene, the pace is quite wild. The first Switch had a wide range of fan-made apps and mods, and the new hardware may head down a similar path. Nothing is set yet, but the early tests give tech fans plenty to watch.
