Zanu-PF, Nkayi vendors brawl as stalls burn

Violent confrontations erupted at Shangani shopping center in Insiza when Zanu PF activists demanded that vendors leave their stalls. The traders resisted the eviction attempt, leading to vandalism and one reported death according to anonymous sources. Community members expressed concern about the insufficient police and government response to the incident.

The vending spaces had generated controversy over allegations of prostitution and drug activity at the site. Citizens Coalition for Change councillor Nomsa Moyo represents the ward after defeating the previous Zanu PF official who established the stalls. Local authorities discussed removing the structures, but delayed action before the clash occurred. Neither Moyo nor Zanu PF legislator Delani Moyo responded to requests for comment about the confrontation.
