Zim fraudster jailed, fake papers fuel R1.6m CFO climb

A Zimbabwean guy got busted in South Africa after running a wild fraud scheme that landed him a fat CFO gig paying over R1.6 million per year. Kudakwashe Mpofu bought a fake permanent residence permit for around 160 bucks and used it to score executive positions at North West Development Corporation, plus he grabbed cars like a Land Rover and a BMW with the phony papers. The whole setup fell apart when Home Affairs got tipped off and investigators found a bunch of forged documents dating back to when he was five years old.

Mmabatho Regional Court dropped a three-year sentence on him with another three years suspended as long as he stays clean. Special Investigating Unit found fake work permits and exceptional skills visas that let him stay after his student visa expired, which helped him climb from assets manager to chief financial officer while pulling down those massive checks.
