Zim gears up for Independence Day with major upgrades

Officials have almost finished preparing for Zimbabwe's 45th Independence celebrations at Nembudziya. They built a stadium with floodlights, changing rooms, terraces, and boreholes. School projects include new classrooms, science labs, and teacher housing. Workers repaired roads throughout the Gokwe North and Gokwe South districts to improve access from major towns.

The cabinet approved the National Energy Compact, aiming to give affordable electricity to everyone by 2030. The plan targets 3.1 million households with power connections. It focuses on expanding generation, regional energy integration, renewable energy, and private investment. Officials want 70 percent of homes using clean cooking methods within six years.

Ministers reported progress on various projects. Construction continues at foreign missions in Abuja, Pretoria, Berlin, and London. Higher education developments include student housing at Manicaland State University. Tourism projects show good progress, with hotel construction at Kariba reaching 65 percent completion. The airport branding work is finished at Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport.

President Mnangagwa visited Uganda last week for a sustainable development forum. During his trip, he signed the Kampala Declaration supporting science-based solutions for financing development goals and met Uganda's president. The forum included discussions about climate issues, technology innovation, and leadership in Africa.
