Zim goes AI on traffic, robots now call shots

Zimbabwe dropped a locally built traffic light system that runs on solar power and uses AI to handle congestion instead of just following dumb timers. The Intelligent Traffic Controller from Global Sun Tech watches how many cars are piling up at intersections through sensors and cameras, then gives longer green lights to whatever lane needs it most, according to Engineer Emmanuel Mungofa.

The whole setup lets different intersections talk to each other and create coordinated routes where one main controller tells the others what to do. Engineers can check everything remotely through the cloud, mess with the timing when things get backed up, and pull data to figure out where roads need work later.

Multiple intersections can link up to keep traffic moving smoothly on busy corridors, and drivers get suggestions for alternate routes when one area gets jammed.
