Zimbabwe Biz Says Protests Will Not Cramp Our Style

Zimbabwean businesses plan to stay open Monday, March 31, despite calls for protests that many consider harmful. Business leaders believe the country cannot handle disruptions to its economy and ask citizens to stay peaceful. The government has promised stability, and the head of retail businesses told ZBC News Friday that stores will operate normally.

Mr. Denford Mutashu from the Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers said all shops will open as usual with support from security services. He pointed out that protests have always hurt the economy instead of helping. Other business groups agree on the need for peace. The Zimbabwe Miners Federation has told its members to treat Monday as a normal workday and to value the benefits of national independence.

Companies want to keep making products without any breaks in their schedule. Mr. Persistence Gwanyanya from Bullion Group said businesses need stable conditions to make more products. He mentioned that from what he heard, everyone plans to work as usual on Monday. The government has warned that police stand ready to deal with anyone who might cause trouble.

Law enforcement teams remain alert to protect peace and stability across the country. Business groups have united behind the message that economic progress depends on continued calm and regular work hours. They believe protests would only set back recent gains and hurt the very people they claim to help.
