Minisforum plans to release a new microATX motherboard that uses laptop processors instead of desktop chips. Their F1FGM model features the AMD X870M chipset with a Ryzen 9 9955HX processor. This mobile CPU can reach speeds up to 5.4 GHz using the Zen 5 design. It packs 16 cores, 32 threads, and 64 MB of cache memory.
The company raised power limits from the standard 55 watts to 160 watts. Since laptop chips lack heat spreaders, Minisforum added a vapor chamber cooling system. The board delivers strong power through 13-phase 60-amp components. Large heatsinks cover the power sections, storage slots, and chipset areas.
Users can add graphics cards through one PCIe 5.0 slot and one PCIe 4.0 slot. Storage options include four M.2 slots with two supporting PCIe 5.0 speeds. The board offers two SATA ports for hard drives and two debug lights to help with setup problems. Connection options feature two USB4 ports, HDMI, DisplayPort, five network jacks, and Wi-Fi 7 support.
The board includes four RGB light headers for customization. With this design, Minisforum aims to compete against ASUS ROG gaming products. Reports suggest the F1FGM will cost about the same as a regular desktop processor when it launches later this year.
