Zimbabwe Receives 700 Tonnes of UAE Grain to Ease Food Shortage

Zimbabwe just received 700 tonnes of grain from the United Arab Emirates as part of a larger 8,530-tonne donation. This food aid came after President Mnangagwa asked for help because of a serious drought caused by El Niño last year. The dry weather hurt Zimbabwe and many other countries in the Southern African Development Community. Local Government Minister Daniel Garwe thanked the UAE during yesterday's ceremony.

The first shipment helps address widespread food shortages across the region. Minister Garwe explained that this donation supports government plans under the Food Deficit Mitigation Strategy. This program aims to fight hunger among vulnerable populations. The grain will particularly help meet food needs in remote and underserved areas of the country.

Garwe stressed the strong friendship between Zimbabwe and the UAE during the event. He promised that officials would make sure all donated food reaches people who truly need it, even in the most distant communities. He emphasized that every person deserves food security as the nation recovers from last year's harsh weather conditions. No location or individual should suffer from hunger.

Public Service Minister Edgar Moyo explained that this donation adds to current food distribution efforts. He mentioned that an established distribution system already exists. Moyo clarified that people will receive processed mealie meals rather than raw grain. The government will follow regular distribution methods to deliver the food.

UAE Ambassador Jassim Mohammed Al Qasimi described how Zimbabwe and his country have developed an exceptional relationship. He stated that both nations have built a partnership based on shared goals. The Ambassador described their connection as stronger than typical diplomatic ties. He committed to ongoing support for Zimbabwe's food security goals.

The partnership between these two countries will significantly help communities struggling with food shortages. Both governments remain focused on ensuring that the aid reaches those most affected by the drought.
