Zimbabwe shuts 35 bogus clinics as fake doctors busted

Zimbabwe's Health Professions Authority closed 35 illegal medical facilities during 2024 enforcement operations. Secretary-general Clotilda Chimbwanda reported widespread violations included expired permits and unlicensed operations. Many sites employed unqualified staff who falsely presented themselves as medical professionals.

The authority discovered serious breaches of safety protocols and legal standards during investigations. Unregistered clinics threaten patient welfare through substandard equipment and inappropriate treatments. Officials emphasized that fraudulent practitioners operate without proper oversight or accountability.

Legal healthcare providers must display current HPA operating permits confirming regulatory compliance. Medical staff require valid practicing certificates from recognized Health Professions Councils. The crackdown launches expanded inspection programs targeting urban and rural areas across all provinces.
