Zimbabwe to host Japan trade forum ahead of Expo 2025

Zimbabwe officials will meet with Japanese business leaders on July 15 to discuss trade partnerships. The event happens alongside Expo 2025 Osaka, with President Mnangagwa attending a national day ceremony the following day. The Zimbabwean ambassador to Japan, Stewart Nyakotyo, expects several major deals to be signed during the gathering.

Local companies sponsor this business forum where Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency representatives seek connections with Japanese counterparts. Ambassador Nyakotyo mentioned that industrialization remains a priority focus area beyond current tourism partnerships. The meeting offers Zimbabwean businesses a chance to meet potential investors from Japan across various sectors.

The Zimbabwe pavilion at Expo 2025 attracts thousands of visitors daily through virtual reality displays. The exhibition runs from April 13 to October 13, with Zimbabwe showcasing among other African nations. Japan, with its $4.01 trillion economy, represents a significant opportunity for Zimbabwe's engagement policy, which aims to build international partnerships.

Trade already exists between both countries, with Japan exporting $62 million worth of goods to Zimbabwe last year. These exports include transportation equipment, consumer goods, vehicles, and parts. Zimbabwe mainly sends tobacco, crude minerals, and cotton to Japan.
