Zimbabwe basically told every school in the country to knock it off with the paperwork demands for kids fleeing anti-migrant violence in South Africa. The government ordered District Schools Inspectors to make sure heads facilitate smooth enrollment for returning learners without requiring transfer letters or performance reports that families obviously couldn't grab while running for their lives.
Thousands of kids, some literally South African-born, got repatriated after the protests pushed their families out. Parents kept hitting walls at schools demanding documents they simply didn't have. Education ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro made it clear that no school gets to turn these children away, pointing to Harare and Mashonaland West as examples where enrollment is already happening in big numbers.
