Zimbabwe Welcomes New Marine Insurance Policy

Zimbabwe wants to change how shipping insurance works. Right now, companies send their money to other countries to protect their goods when they ship them. The government thinks this needs to stop.

Minister Mthuli Ncube discussed this plan when he shared the country's financial plans for 2025. He said Zimbabwe loses too much money because local companies buy insurance from foreign firms. He wants local insurance companies to handle this business instead.

Many people who know about insurance think this is a great idea. Garikai Ncube, who helps companies get insurance, says it could make a big difference. He believes local insurance companies can do the job well and create more work for people in Zimbabwe.

Vincent Magura, another expert, says keeping insurance money in Zimbabwe helps everyone. The money can help build things, grow food, and make products. He thinks local companies can learn to handle big shipping problems just as well as foreign ones.

Namatai Maeresera, who studies money matters, likes the plan, too. He says when money stays in Zimbabwe, it makes the country stronger. It helps create jobs and brings in more tax money. He thinks more people will get work in insurance offices.

Some people worry that Zimbabwe's insurance companies might not be ready for all this new work. But Minister Ncube says the government will help them learn what they need to know. They'll get training and help from both the government and private companies.

The plan looks good for Zimbabwe's future. It should help strengthen the country's currency and create more jobs. The insurance business could grow a lot, which would benefit everyone in Zimbabwe.
