Zimbabwe will give each village a tractor, Masuka says

Thirty-five thousand tractors, one parked in every single village, and somebody who remembers the borehole pledge is already rolling his eyes. Anxious Masuka, running Agriculture, Mechanisation, Water and Rural Resettlement, says the President kicks off the rollout within roughly two months.

Framing for all this sits under NDS2, where Village Business Units flip subsistence plots into rural operations that actually move product. Each village gets machinery sized for local conditions, landing before summer planting starts.

Masuka dangled a business hook as well. Assemble the units locally first, manufacture them down the road, and his ministry reportedly scouted two countries with that in mind. Zimbabwe's fleet has climbed from 7,500 up to 17,800, with another 5,000 expected through 11 dealers currently on board.

Temba Mliswa isn't buying a word of it. The former ZANU PF Mashonaland West provincial chairman remembers a commitment covering 35,000 village boreholes and 9,600 more at schools, which quietly evaporated, and he reads this tractor pitch as identical posturing wrapped in shinier packaging.
