Zimbabwe's High Court voids Chief Murinye's summons to Mutangiri

Chief Murinye tried to run the courtroom while playing complainant, and the High Court basically hit delete. Justice Christopher Dube-Banda erased the summons and every community-court step against Riverton Academy founder Philimon Mutangiri, branding the whole setup procedural abuse.

The feud centers on Riverton Academy Extension in Murinye, Masvingo Province. Ephias Munodawafa, better known as Chief Murinye, resisted the project, arguing that Mutangiri lacked his blessing and had used sacred ground. Parents later faced access blocks, prompting Mutangiri to secure protection from the High Court.

Even with that case active, the chief called Mutangiri before his tribunal over construction complaints and alleged insults. Mutangiri challenged a system where one person accused, judged, and controlled the outcome. Dube-Banda agreed, citing fair-hearing protections and impartiality rules. He voided the default decision and ordered Chief Murinye to cover standard legal costs.
