Zimbabwe's NDS2 Promises Economic Boom by 2030

Zimbabwe Unveils National Development Strategy 2 for Vision 2030.

Harare, Zimbabwe—The government has announced its National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2). The plan aims to help Zimbabwe achieve its Vision 2030 goals.

The Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) said NDS2 will focus on:

• Fiscal discipline
• Macro-economic stability
• Strong trade and investment
• Enforcing property rights

NDS2 builds on the progress made under NDS1. NDS1 started in 2020 and ends this year.

Yesterday, government officials met in Kadoma. They discussed NDS2 at a workshop led by the OPC.

The OPC highlighted NDS1's achievements in:

• Infrastructure
• Food security
• Investment

"NDS2 will steer Zimbabwe toward long-term economic growth," said Acting Chief Secretary Paul Damasane. "We must address barriers and create an environment for transformation."

Damasane said this will require:

• Strict fiscal discipline
• Macro-economic stability
• Robust trade and investment
• Enforcing property rights
• Sustainable public finance

Deputy Chief Secretary Willard Manungo said the government invited input from all stakeholders, including ministries, departments, and the private sector.

"We are compiling everyone's views," he said. "We will give them to the Cabinet for approval."

NDS1 had success in many areas, such as:

• Infrastructure projects
• Expanding ICT
• Promoting food security
• Economic stability programs
• Image building
• Social protection
• Governance
• Housing
• Human capital development
• Youth, sports, and culture

The government constructed roads, airports, solar projects, and boreholes. It also built dams to improve agriculture and food security.

Zimbabwe tamed inflation and introduced a gold-backed currency. It rehabilitated foreign missions to enhance diplomacy.

The government built affordable housing for workers. It prepared students to be empowered through education.

NDS2 will continue these efforts to transform Zimbabwe by 2030.
