Zomba District Council approved a K99 billion budget

A whopping K99 billion budget just got the green light from the Zomba District Council for the 2026/2027 financial year.

Where the money comes from

• Baster Chirwa, Council Chairperson, presented the budget following NLGFC guidelines.
• Locally generated revenue sits at around MK417.3 million.
• The Constituency Development Fund accounts for MK45 billion alone.
• Central government transfers, donor funding, and personal emoluments round it out.

Big-ticket allocations in the plan

• MK45.7 billion is earmarked for personal emoluments.
• Climate Smart Enhanced Public Works Programme gets MK1.2 billion.
• The Social Cash Transfer programme pulled MK3.4 billion.
• Sector funds landed at MK3.6 billion.

Development goals for 2026/27

• Musandide Fredrick Misinjo, the District Commissioner, outlined key infrastructure projects.
• New council offices, bridges, and school blocks are on the construction list.
