ZOTAC Ditches 12 Pin for Safer 5060 Ti Power

ZOTAC plans to use traditional 8-pin power connectors instead of newer 12-pin designs for its upcoming RTX 5060 Ti graphics cards. This decision might help users avoid the melting problems that plague more powerful models. The RTX 5060 Ti needs about 180 watts of power, much less than higher-end cards require.

Leaked images show all versions of the card using the reliable 8-pin connector. This includes both the standard Twin Edge models and the premium AMP edition. The older connector design proves safer because it distributes power more evenly across all wires compared to the problematic 12-pin version.

The cards will receive power from both the connector and the motherboard slot. The 8-pin plug delivers up to 150 watts, and the PCI-E slot adds another 75 watts. This gives ZOTAC enough headroom for factory overclocked models that need extra power. Some specifications leaked alongside the images confirm the Twin Edge OC model reaches boost speeds of 2602 MHz.

Other manufacturers might use dual 8-pin connectors on their models to allow more aggressive overclocking. Experts hope no company will use the troublesome 12-pin design since the card simply does not need that much power capacity.
