Prado dives into the valley, KSh14m weed haul uncovered
Cops in Machakos chased down a Toyota Prado that had about 474 kilograms of weed stuffed inside after the driver blew past a checkpoint near Kaloleni and took off toward Mutituni. Officers started shooting at the tires during the pursuit, and the vehicle ended up crashing into a valley close to Kyanguli. The people inside bailed out and ran away before the police could grab them. County Criminal Investigations Officer Kasim Baricha said the cannabis haul is worth around 14.2 million shillings, and authorities are still hunting for the suspects who ditched the SUV. Police want anyone with tips about the runners to come forward and help track them down.
Saved on the gallows, Munyakho brings home honey and hope
Stephen Munyakho got pulled off death row in Saudi Arabia after spending over ten years locked up for killing a Yemeni coworker, and the guy says he made peace with possibly never getting out until people back home raised cash to save him. The murder conviction landed him on death row twice before the victim's family agreed to take blood money instead of watching him get executed. Senator Mohamed Faki helped coordinate fundraising that hit 20 million shillings before the government and World Muslim League kicked in the rest to reach the full million dollars needed. Munyakho and his mom, Dorothy Kweyu, stopped by the senator's office in Ganjoni to say thanks and brought dates plus honey as gifts. His family has been dealing with...
Chude bares bridge battle, memoir turns pain into power
Chude Jideonwo dropped a memoir about almost driving off the Eko Bridge into the Atlantic Ocean when his depression got unbearable. The media guy behind WithChude had been dealing with what doctors finally labeled as Tourette's syndrome after years of getting the wrong diagnosis, and everything crashed at once while he was crossing that bridge in Lagos. He slowed his car down and stared at the water, thinking about just ending it all. The book covers a decade where Jideonwo went from running presidential campaigns in multiple African countries to quitting as CEO of RED and nearly bouncing to America permanently. He eventually stayed in Nigeria and built his talk show empire after climbing out of that dark period. The guy has worked...
Top UK doc steps in, Khaleda’s care now global-grade
Dr Richard Beale from King's College London showed up at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka to help treat Khaleda Zia, who's been hanging out in the Coronary Care Unit fighting off heart and lung infections plus pneumonia. The guy is an intensive care specialist from Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, and he got there mid-morning to start reviewing her medical files before talking strategy with the local doctors. Sharmila Rahman Sithi, the wife of Khaleda's dead son Arafat Rahman Koko, also went into the CCU around the same time. Chinese medical specialists were supposed to arrive later that day to join the treatment team. The former prime minister has been dealing with a mountain of health problems like liver cirrhosis, arthritis...
Army choppers prep near Evercare, Khaleda gets VVIP lift
The military is running helicopter drills near Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, where Khaleda Zia has been stuck in critical condition. Bangladesh Army and Air Force choppers will practice landing and taking off at fields next to the building as part of Special Security Force protocols since the government just bumped her up to VVIP status. The whole thing is happening between noon and late afternoon. Officials put out a statement telling people not to freak out about the helicopter activity or believe random nonsense floating around online. The former prime minister got the high-level security designation this week, which qualifies her for the SSF protection package.
Yunus joins UK docs, VVIP Khaleda gets chopper cover
Prof Mohammad Yunus dropped by Evercare Hospital in Bashundhara to check on Khaleda Zia, who's been sitting in the Coronary Care Unit fighting for her life. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and some doctors met him when he showed up, and they all headed to the CCU, where specialists from Mount Sinai, Johns Hopkins, the UK, and China have been working on her case. Yunus told the family to hang tight and promised government support to speed things up. A UK medical squad led by Dr Richard Beale rolled in to take over parts of her treatment, and the guy is apparently a big deal in intensive care medicine. The government plans to run helicopter test landings near the hospital as part of security protocols since she is rated as a VVIP. Army and...
China docs land for Khaleda, Evercare turns global ward
Chinese medical specialists keep rolling into Dhaka to help treat Khaleda Zia, the BNP leader who's been camped out at Evercare Hospital. Four more doctors showed up late at night, and Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir greeted them when they arrived. Another batch of five Chinese doctors had already come earlier in the week to check on her condition and coordinate with the local medical team. A UK doctor named Richard Beale also flew in to join the effort, hitting the hospital in the morning to start working with everyone else. The former prime minister has been getting treatment there for a while, and international medical teams have been consulting with the hospital's doctors about next steps. Her health situation has brought in...
Trump fuels World Cup drama, fans brace for visa games
Trump is making the upcoming World Cup in America an absolute nightmare for everyone involved since the tournament happens across the US, Mexico, and Canada in six months. The guy keeps threatening to yank games from Democrat cities like Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, and Los Angeles while slapping travel bans on countries like Haiti and Iran that are actually playing in the tournament. His immigration crackdown has Latino communities scared in host cities, and he dropped tariffs on both neighboring countries while casually mentioning he might annex Canada or bomb Mexican cartels. The State Department set up express visa processing for fans with tickets, but they still need to pass security checks that could take forever. Moving...
Meta boots Aussie teens, social ban hits scroll patrol
Meta started booting Australian kids under 16 off Instagram, Facebook, and Threads before the country's new social media ban kicks in next month. Australia is forcing major platforms to block underage users or face fines of around 32 million dollars, and the company says teens can download their data before getting yeeted. Instagram alone has about 350,000 Australian users between 13 and 15 who will lose access. The tech giant wants app stores to handle age verification instead of making teens prove their age across multiple platforms. YouTube complained that the ban makes young people less safe since they can still visit without accounts but lose safety filters, which the communications minister called a weird argument. Malaysia and...
