Top UK doc steps in, Khaleda’s care now global-grade

Dr Richard Beale from King's College London showed up at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka to help treat Khaleda Zia, who's been hanging out in the Coronary Care Unit fighting off heart and lung infections plus pneumonia. The guy is an intensive care specialist from Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, and he got there mid-morning to start reviewing her medical files before talking strategy with the local doctors. Sharmila Rahman Sithi, the wife of Khaleda's dead son Arafat Rahman Koko, also went into the CCU around the same time.

Chinese medical specialists were supposed to arrive later that day to join the treatment team. The former prime minister has been dealing with a mountain of health problems like liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, and issues with basically every major organ. She's got a pacemaker and stents keeping her heart going.
