EC dismisses Bwowe's petition, clears rivals for Nakawa seat
Some lawyer named Ivan Bwowe tried pulling a fast one with Uganda's Electoral Commission by claiming his opponents got nominated under the wrong constituency name. He wanted the EC to toss out all seven rivals and hand him the Nakawa Division West seat without a vote, arguing their paperwork said Nakawa West instead of the full official name. The EC shut him down hard after bringing everyone together for a hearing. Justice Simon Byabakama pointed out that the actual Control Form everyone signed had the correct name, and campaign schedules got fixed before Bwowe even filed his complaint. The Commission also noted Bwowe's posters used the shortened version of himself, which made his whole argument look ridiculous. All eight candidates...
IGP calls for calm as Uganda heads into election campaign
Uganda's top cop is telling everyone to chill out with about a month left before the general elections happen. IGP Byakagaba Abas said things have been mostly fine but pointed out some sketchy incidents where people got hurt, and property got trashed. Police are dealing with candidates who ignore their approved routes, hold rallies where they shouldn't, and generally cause chaos for regular people trying to live their lives. Byakagaba rattled off a bunch of recent clashes that ended badly, like officers getting attacked in Lira, some civilian getting jumped in Abim, and stone-throwing in Iganga that left someone dead. He's warning politicians to cut out the hate speech, stop messing with other people's campaign posters, and quit...
US embassy warns of protests, Tanzania braces for unrest
The US Embassy in Dar es Salaam put out a warning about potential protests hitting Tanzania soon, and things could get messy fast. American officials told their citizens to prepare for possible curfews, internet shutdowns, ferry cancellations, and blocked roads as demonstrations ramp up. Security forces have been checking people's phones for protest-related stuff, and sharing certain images could land you in legal trouble under local laws. President Samia Suluhu Hassan supposedly won with 98% of the vote, but opposition groups are calling it completely fraudulent. The UN's Volker Turk wants investigations into violence that may have killed over a thousand people during the crackdown. Both the African Union and SADC said the election...
Dominic Musoke wins 2025 NARO Golf Open in fairy-tale triumph
Dominic Musoke went from hauling bags to winning tournaments after taking the 2025 Equity NARO Golf Open at Marylouise Simkins Memorial Golf Club in Namulonge. The guy shot two-under 208 across three rounds on his home turf and beat favorite Joseph Cwinyaai by five strokes for his second NARO title. Musoke grinded hard with a daily routine of running five kilometers and smacking 300 balls for three months straight, and his knowledge of the course kept him locked in the whole time. Cwinyaai finished second despite winning multiple tournaments this year, while defending champ Abdullah Kakooza fell to fifth place and couldn't repeat last year's performance. Meron Kyomugisha dominated the women's division with a score of 221 and crushed...
Bobi Wine confident of 2026 win, vows to end 40 years of dictatorship
Bobi Wine told everyone at a presidential debate that no other candidate can touch him if the election runs fair, and he said his support stretches across every part of Uganda. The National Unity Platform guy claims he actually won back in 2021 when official numbers gave him 35 percent against Museveni's 58 percent, but he insists the whole thing got rigged by state machinery and the Electoral Commission. He painted the current government as a total mess with captured courts, judges making decisions based on what Museveni wants instead of actual law, and opposition figures either locked up or forced into exile. Bobi Wine says voting for him means ending decades of authoritarian rule, and he believes Uganda can still transform into...
She Cranes win Celtic Cup with dominant 70-48 victory over Wales
Uganda's She Cranes went undefeated through the Celtic Cup and grabbed the trophy after beating Wales 70-48 at Emirates Arena in Glasgow. The squad won all five matches in the round-robin format, and their defense locked down hard after Wales jumped ahead early. Uganda flipped the first quarter to 17-15, then went off in the second period with interceptions that turned into fast breaks and built a 12-goal cushion by halftime. The She Cranes kept pushing in the third quarter and stretched the gap to 15 goals before closing out with a 22-goal margin. Aya Gloria and Faridah Kadondi shut down Welsh attackers while the midfield controlled everything, and Mary Nuba got named Player of the Match while Shadia Nassanga took home Player of the...
Uganda Cubs seal U-17 AFCON spot with 3-0 win over Ethiopia
Uganda Cubs punched their ticket to the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations after demolishing Ethiopia 3-0 in the CECAFA semifinal at Abebe Bikila Stadium. Lorian Lwesibawa opened the scoring after halftime, and Thomas Ogema made it 2-0 just two minutes later with a clean finish. Lwesibawa sealed his brace with a gorgeous free kick to lock down the win for the defending champions. Tanzania had already qualified earlier by beating Kenya 3-1 in the first semifinal, and Uganda's grabbing one of the three available spots means both East African squads are headed to Morocco. The final between Uganda and Tanzania goes down at Abebe Bikila Stadium, with the Cubs looking to defend their title and cap off the qualifiers on a high note.
Muntu warns of political eruption if Uganda fails to address injustice and poverty
Ugandan presidential candidate Mugisha Muntu from the Alliance for National Transformation warned that the country is heading toward a massive blowup if authorities keep ignoring poverty and using security forces for political games. The retired major general said during a debate that military and police units get dragged into shady operations because higher-ups issue orders designed to protect the ruling class instead of serving citizens. He pointed out that qualified officers exist, but the system rewards corrupt behavior and punishes professionalism. Muntu connected rising crime to economic desperation and said throwing more cops at the problem won't work when people are literally sleeping next to their livestock because they're...
Karuma-Kamdini road partially reopens after month-long closure
Uganda's Works and Transport Ministry opened up part of the Karuma-Kamdini highway after nearly a month of closures from embankment damage caused by heavy rainfall. The section got wrecked when nonstop rain triggered a collapse about 1 km from the Karuma-Olwiyo/Pakwach junction, and authorities had to shut down the whole stretch for emergency fixes while diverting trucks through a detour that added 113 km to trips. Light vehicles like buses, medium trucks, vans, and cars can use the temporary detour route, but heavy trucks and trailers still have to take the longer Karuma-Olwiyo-Anaka path until full repairs wrap up. The closure messed with commuters and businesses across northern Uganda since transportation costs spiked, and supply...
