TIMB makes a killing with its record tobacco harvest
Zimbabwe produced a record 354.9 million kilograms of tobacco this year and generated more than $1 billion in earnings for the first time. The Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board attributed the achievement to climate-smart agriculture and expanded irrigation after drought reduced 2023 output to 232 million kilograms. Growers transplanted more than 15,600 hectares of irrigated tobacco as of Sept. 26, representing an 11.5 percent increase from the previous year. The sector increased value-added tobacco production from 2 percent to 10.15 percent and established Africa's first nicotine extraction plant. Zimbabwe will host the inaugural Zimbabwe-China Tobacco Expo from Oct. 16 through Oct. 17 at the Rainbow Towers Hotel in Harare. The...

The Zimbabwe Football Association rejected Sheasham's withdrawal from the Central Region Soccer League on Monday and insisted the Gweru club remains a member until disputes are resolved through proper channels. Club Chairman Reginald Chidawanyika alleged systematic corruption within the league administration and cited multiple instances of irregular officiating favoring rival clubs. The lawyer detailed complaints about unauthorized payments to match officials and suspicious conduct by competing teams that went unaddressed by regional authorities. Zifa directed...

Arubi emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism through the remaining qualifiers while mentoring younger players toward rebuilding the program. The Marumo Gallants goalkeeper views these final games as preparation for the AFCON tournament in December rather than focusing on the missed qualification opportunity. His recent form supports his continued...
