Iran sent back more than 230,000 Afghan people during June alone. The United Nations migration agency reported these numbers on Monday. Most Afghans faced forced deportation rather than choosing to leave on their own. The returns increased sharply as a Tehran deadline approached. Afghan families reported growing pressure from Iranian authorities.
International Organization for Migration spokesman Avand Azeez Agha shared the exact figures with AFP news. From June 1 through June 28, exactly 233,941 people crossed back into Afghanistan. The final week of June saw 131,912 returns happen. Daily numbers reached as high as 30,000 people for several days. Recent counts show about 6,000 to 7,000 people crossing each day.
