Uganda wants to build a permanent embassy in Moscow and asked Russia for help finding land or property. Foreign Minister Odongo Jeje Abubakhar made the request during talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday. The meeting happened during Vice President Jessica Alupo's visit to Russia. Odongo said the embassy would show Uganda's commitment to stronger ties with Russia. Lavrov welcomed the idea and promised Russia would consider helping Uganda.
Uganda currently handles its Russian relations through its embassy in Turkey. The new Moscow embassy would expand Uganda's diplomatic presence across Eurasia. Russia has supported Uganda since independence through education, health, defense and nuclear energy programs. More...
