A community garden named after a local figure is already making money. The Omutize Dr Gerson Kunomundu Katjirua garden in Epukiro, run by the Ovambanderu Traditional Authority, turned a five-thousand-dollar profit from its first harvest. Councilor Kotoree Kaukuata, handling the project's marketing, said this shows they are on the right path for food security and self-sufficiency.
The one and a half hectare plot started operations last year. They sold their initial produce at a local permit day event. Current crops include carrots, onions, watermelons, and sweet potatoes.
