ZACC probes Kwekwe council over missing vendor cash
Just when you think municipal corruption cannot get any more blatant. The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission, ZACC, is apparently looking into the Kwekwe City Council. The issue is vendor money that seems to have vanished into thin air. The mayor there, Albert Zinhanga, confirmed the probe during a council meeting, stating they cannot discuss details because the audit report is now with ZACC. He was shutting down a question from a councilor named Solomon Matsa, who represents Ward 10. Matsa is the one who originally sounded the alarm months ago. He accused the council's management of siphoning off thousands from vendor fees. His own estimate claims the council pulls in between a hundred and a hundred fifty grand U.S. from vendors...
Chivayo rewards Pambuka’s redemption story with wheels and cash
Here we go again. The human cryptocurrency that is Wicknell Chivayo is back on the feed, this time playing philanthropic sugar daddy. The controversial businessman, known for his flashy giveaways to ZANU-PF allies, just dropped a massive gift on former ZTV news anchor Oscar Pambuka. The haul includes a brand new 2025 Toyota Fortuner and ten thousand U.S. dollars in straight cash. Chivayo plastered the whole thing online, of course. He framed it as a reward for Pambuka's supposed redemption arc. He praised the ex-anchor for openly talking about his past, which involved addiction issues, a lost job, a criminal conviction, and some prison time. Chivayo's lengthy post called Pambuka a committed advocate against drug abuse now, especially...
Varakashi4ED demands MisRed’s exit over Mahere win
The online ZANU-PF fan club, Varakashi4ED, is having a complete meltdown over a radio popularity contest. Their national chairman, some guy named Godwin Nkatha, is demanding the immediate firing of a ZiFM Stereo host, MisRed, whose actual name is Samantha Mary Musa. This is over the Rush Drive Time show poll that picked opposition person Fadzayi Mahere as the winner. Nkatha is throwing a full-blown tantrum, claiming MisRed totally rigged the whole thing. He insists the real, legitimate outcome was a tie between Tino Machakaire and the famously flamboyant Wicknell Chivayo, with Pedzai Sakupwanya coming in second. He called the announced results misleading garbage that lacks integrity, saying all smart Zimbabweans should ignore them. He...
ZiFM shrugs off Rush Awards backlash, it’s just listener fun
A Zimbabwe radio station called ZiFM Stereo had to clarify a whole thing after their show The Rush, hosted by MisRed, did some audience vote called the Rush Awards. The vote named opposition figure Fadzayi Mahere the overall winner. This did not go over well with some people online, specifically supporters of the ZANU-PF party and President Emmerson Mnangagwa. These supporters ripped into the station, calling it unpatriotic and demanding it get shut down. Other nominees in that top category had connections to the president's circle, like businessmen Wicknell Chivayo and Pedzai Sakupwanya, also known as Scott Sakupwanya. The station basically said everyone needs to touch grass. They put out a statement saying these awards are not an...
Maguwu slams lithium giveaway, says Zim funds China more than aid flows back
A Zimbabwean rights activist posted pictures of huge piles of lithium bags ready for China, asking if his country is actually the biggest donor to Beijing. Farai Maguwu, who runs the Centre for Natural Resource Governance, showed minerals staged for export from Kamativi in Matabeleland North. He argued the nation needs leaders with actual vision and patriotism to stop foreign companies from stripping resources under the label of investment. Maguwu pointedly asked how a country failing to fix basic roads or provide clean water can just give away its minerals. He listed several lithium mining sites like Prospect and Sabi Star, calling them all a donation to China. This comes despite a government plan announced earlier to ban exporting...
Museveni flexes Hoima’s shiny new stadium, calls it Uganda’s AFCON crown jewel
President Museveni called the new Hoima City Stadium a major win for the country's economic planning and sports future. At the opening event, he credited the project's success to careful strategy and local involvement, specifically thanking the family of the late Rujumba for providing the land and praising the First Lady, Janet Museveni, for her work as Education Minister in getting it done. He explained the location choice was tied to other big developments in the Bunyoro region, like new oil roads and an international airport, combined with the need for venues after Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania secured the AFCON tournament. The facility was built by a Turkish company, Summa Group, in only twelve months using only government funds, and...
Kampala meat prices rise gently, no 2024-style Christmas chaos
Meat costs in the capital are ticking upward for the holidays, but not by much. At the main city abattoir, beef is going for around fourteen thousand shillings a kilo, just a thousand or two more than recent weeks. That is a lot cheaper than the wild price jumps seen last Christmas, when wholesale rates hit seventeen thousand. Butchers point to expensive live animals and a small drop in cattle deliveries as reasons for the modest bump. Activity at the slaughterhouse is picking up with goats and other livestock coming in, yet traders call the market unusually stable. A long-time butcher and head of the female butchers group, Hawa Mukandoli, said this year is different because there are no government quarantine rules choking the supply...
Hit-and-run kills two in Nakasongola, driver vanishes into night
Cops in Nakasongola are looking for a driver who killed two people and took off. The victims were riding a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle along the road near the army barracks when a faster vehicle smashed into them from behind. Both men died right there. Police named them as David Semanda, who was thirty-five, and Robert Mande, the sixty-year-old local council chairperson for Lwampanga Village. The regional police spokesman, ASP Sam Twiineamazima, said the unknown driver sped away after the crash. The bodies were taken to a health center mortuary, and the wrecked motorcycle was held at the police station. Reports suggest the two were coming back from a political gathering led by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, which was meant to drum up...
Namutamba pleads for calm Christmas, unity ahead of 2026 polls
A government minister is pushing for a calm holiday and election season. Princess Hellen Namutamba, the Tourism and Heritage Minister for the Busoga region, told people to celebrate Christmas peacefully and stay united. She also happens to be part of the team mobilizing support for President Yoweri Museveni. In a briefing, she asked citizens to behave responsibly, promote tolerance, and take pride in the country. With the national vote approaching, she reminded everyone that peace is more important than political conflict, advising voters to stay wise and avoid violence. Namutamba specifically called on parents to steer young people away from hateful speech, suggesting sports and church events as better holiday activities instead. She...
