Gupuro {ChiShona}

Definition: the money that is given to a woman by her husband after they have reached a point of irreconcilable differences in their marriage.

This money carries a message in the form of cultural tradition to show that the husband has finally made up his mind, therefore, his current wife (or better yet his soon-to-be ex-wife) is supposed to take this money to her parents as proof of a forthcoming divorce.

The amount of money in this context doesn't have to be in huge sums as though someone was actually paying lobola or roora (bride price). So it can be as little as $10 USD or €10 EUR, that's fair enough.

However, if a wife is still spiteful to the point of refusing to accept gupuro (which some but not all Zim women do), well, that isn't going to halt the divorce proceedings either since the matter will definitely be addressed from a legal perspective.
