2025’s Black love glow-up - celebs got engaged with zero mess

A bunch of celebrity couples decided 2025 was the year to make it official. High-profile engagements from people like Normani and football player DK Metcalf to Young Thug and Mariah the Scientist gave the year a consistent theme of public, intentional commitments.

NFL wide receiver DK Metcalf confirmed his engagement to singer Normani during a Pittsburgh Steelers press conference in March, a surprise moment she later called deeply personal. Model Winnie Harlow and basketball player Kyle Kuzma shared their Valentine's Day engagement on social media, while singer Coco Jones and NBA star Donovan Mitchell kept their July news relatively lowkey despite fan excitement. Actor Jussie Smollett announced his engagement to Jabari Redd in June, framing it as a step toward personal peace. After years of public speculation, actors Ryan Destiny and Keith Powers revealed their October engagement, and basketball star Karl-Anthony Towns proposed to influencer Jordyn Woods on Christmas Day. The year's most shockingly public moment came in December, when rapper Young Thug proposed to singer Mariah the Scientist during his live performance in Atlanta.

These milestones, spread across the calendar, collectively highlighted a wave of visible Black love. The engagements largely avoided theatrical publicity stunts, instead feeling like deliberate choices to cement longstanding relationships in the public eye. The trend showcased a shift toward mature, settled commitments within the spotlight, letting the simple act of getting engaged become the story itself.
