975 million iPhones locked out of Apple Intelligence

Apple confronts a substantial upgrade opportunity as approximately 150 million iPhones worldwide cannot support iOS 26, and roughly 975 million devices lack compatibility with Apple Intelligence features. CLSA analyst Bhavtosh Vajpayee reports the average iPhone age reached 6.5 years, while 65 percent of the current user base cannot access artificial intelligence functions available only on iPhone 15 Pro models or newer devices.

The technology company plans to release six smartphone variants in 2026, and targets 10 percent shipment growth from an estimated 241 million units in 2025. Apple shipped 232 million iPhones in 2024, but the projected expansion depends partly on demand for a new foldable model. The manufacturer also develops smart glasses to compete with Meta's products in the wearable technology market.
