A’Legends rally diaspora for Hurricane Melissa aid

A Pennsylvanian community organization gathered emergency provisions for Jamaican families displaced by Hurricane Melissa during a collection event on Saturday. The A'Legends Helping Hands Foundation coordinated the initiative at Port Royal Cuisine in Lansdowne alongside a secondary location at Shana Caribbean Café in Philadelphia, where residents contributed rice, preserved foods, infant nutrition products, and household cleaners.

Jenelle Alexia, who established A'Legends and directed the campaign, said the large turnout demonstrated solidarity between diaspora members and their native country. She described the response as moving evidence of collective purpose. The foundation maintains ongoing charitable programs that provide meals to homeless populations and support children without fathers in Jamaica while partnering with the Just for Peace Foundation on similar missions.

Volunteers will transport donated materials to the island through verified partner organizations for direct distribution among storm victims. The relief operation extends the foundation's broader humanitarian commitment to deliver consistent assistance where communities face urgent needs.
