A 30-year grudge fuels the Hwange and Blackrock Colliery derby

Wednesday's Zifa Southern Region Division One League features a compelling derby between Hwange FC and Blackrock FC at Sinderella Stadium. The match carries extraordinary significance as Blackrock emerged from rejection three decades ago when founder Tichaona Mufandaedza failed trials at Hwange. Mufandaedza subsequently established Blackrock with friends from Lwendulu, creating a club that would eventually challenge their former aspiration. The technical manager describes the upcoming encounter as two bulls clashing, with dust flying everywhere. Blackrock has already exceeded expectations this season under coach Mthulisi Maphosa's guidance.

Hwange supporters' chairman Lisitu Ndlovu urges fans to attend the match and provide psychological support for the team. The club seeks to return to Premier League status after relegation alongside Bulawayo Chiefs. Ndlovu emphasizes the importance of community backing while calling for disciplined behavior from both supporter groups. He acknowledges Hwange as favorites but expects a challenging contest. The chairman warns against violence regardless of match circumstances or officiating decisions.

Blackrock occupies sixth position with 23 points from 13 games, trailing Hwange by four points. The newcomers have demonstrated defensive strength and remain within their survival objectives for the season. Hwange sits third with 27 points but trails surprise leaders Nkayi United by four points. Other Wednesday fixtures include Nkayi United visiting Victoria Falls Herentals and Bulawayo Warriors facing Mainline at Dingumuzi Stadium. The league continues to produce competitive matches as teams battle for promotion and survival.
