Abia hits back at N450m tax rumors, Otti says no ruthless crackdown in sight

Abia State officials rejected accusations about imposing harsh tax policies on local businesses and residents. Emmanuel Okpechi serves as Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Internally Generated Revenue and issued the denial statement. The administration eliminated corrupt practices through its new Single Treasury Account system. Officials established the Harmonized Task Force to prevent multiple ticketing schemes. This unified approach blocks revenue leaks while improving financial oversight.

The government charges tricycle operators N500 for electronic tickets based on union recommendations. Okpechi dismissed claims about N450 million fees per filling station as completely false. Such charges would eliminate station profits and contradict approved fee schedules. The state maintains no agreement to transfer 15 percent of 2025 revenues to Access Bank. Their relationship involves a professional partnership focused on enhancing financial technology, rather than revenue-sharing arrangements.

Citizens should use approved payment methods, such as AbiaPay, and authorized banking channels. Residents must demand electronic receipts for all transactions. The Harmonised Task Force handles reports about unauthorized cash demands and illegal ticketing activities.
